What is a quinella?

A quinella is a type of horse racing bet where the bettor selects two horses in a race to finish in the top two positions regardless of the order they finish. The only requirement is that the two horses selected must finish first and second in the race. The bettor wins if both horses come in the top two, while the order of finish does not matter.

Quinella bets are much more flexible than other types of horse racing bets, such as exactas or trifectas, as the bettor doesn't have to accurately predict the order of the horses' finish. Instead, the bettor can focus on choosing the two horses they think are most likely to finish in the top two positions, regardless of which one wins the race.

Quinella bets are offered at most racetracks, and their payouts can vary depending on the odds of the horses selected and the size of the betting pool. Quinella bets are also popular in greyhound racing, where they are known as "quinielas."
